FACO Members take WMA Honors

Paul Cada and Schelly Olson, 2022 WMA award winners from Colorado

Paul Cada and Schelly Olson, 2022 WMA award winners from Colorado

The 2022 Wildfire Mitigation Award (WMA) winners were announced this week and included two of our own: Fire Adapted Colorado members – Paul Cada (Town of Vail) and Schelly Olson (Grand County Wildfire Council). The two also happen to serve as officers on the FACO board, as Treasurer and Vice Chair respectively.  Other winners include William “Danny” Blevins (Kentucky Firefighters Association, Kentucky Division of Forestry), Jonathan Riley (Chelan Fire and Rescue, Washington State Department of Natural Resources), the Tahoe Fire and Fuels Team (Tahoe Living With Fire, Nevada Division of Forestry, CAL FIRE), Mike Mathis and Chris Colburn (Florida Forest Service).

According to an International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC) Facebook post, the WMAs are the highest national honor one can receive for outstanding work and significant program impact in wildfire mitigation. We’re pretty proud of these two for their lofty achievement and for being such an important part of our state-wide Fire Adapted Colorado Network!
