Member Spotlight – Todd Holzwarth

 In Uncategorized

Periodically we will be highlighting FACO members and the great work that they are doing across the state. At the end of each Member Spotlight, we ask a question to our viewers about current issues or challenges FACO members are facing – we hope that you’ll contribute your experience and thoughts to this discussion on our Facebook page.

FACO Member: Todd Holzwarth, Chief East Grand County Fire Protection District #4

Recent accomplishments: This year East Grand County Fire Protection District #4 (EGCFPD#4) improved their Insurance Service Office (ISO) Fire Protection Insurance Class Rating for rural areas without fixed water supplies to a Class 4 (rising from Class 6).  Municipal areas are now a step up to Class 3.

The new Class 3 rating places East Grand County in the top 10% of departments nationally. The improved protection class ratings may provide savings on residents’ property insurance depending on their insurance company.

Recent lessons learned:

EGCFPD#4 provides training to their volunteers, a strong fire prevention program, and well-maintained equipment for responding to incidents.  In addition, our volunteers and staff contributed time or were involved in many activities such as public education, social activities, and special projects, pump and hose testing, meetings, inspections, and planning. When asked to summarize his work, Todd said, “Volunteer firefighters are the backbone of rural fire service – take care of them.”

Current question for other FACO members: How do we get everyone to get their mitigation done when they live way out of area and do not care?
