Live Wildfire Ready this May (and all year long)
As wildfire practitioners, your role in connecting communities with reliable, timely information is more important than ever. May is National Wildfire Awareness Month—a critical time to promote wildfire prevention and preparedness as risks increase with warmer, drier conditions across Colorado.
Join the Colorado State Forest Service, USFS, BLM, DFPC, Colorado State Fire Chiefs, FACO, West Metro Fire, and Eagle County to help amplify the message during May by participating in the Live Wildfire Ready campaign. This campaign, emphasized during Wildfire Awareness Month, is designed to give residents the tools and knowledge to reduce wildfire risk to their homes, families, and properties.
FACO is an active member of the Live Wildfire Ready steering committee. We encourage FACO Network participants to participate in the campaign so we can all share cohesive messages and resources about wildfire risk, mitigation, and prevention.
The easiest way to participate in the campaign is to post to your social media channels during May with the hashtags:
#LiveWildfireReady and #WildfireAwarenessMonth

Week 1 (May 4-10): Know your risk
Week 2 (May 11-17): Prepare your home and family for wildfire
Week 3 (May 18-24): Community actions to prepare for wildfire
Week 4 (May 25-31): Actions you can take to prevent wildfires
Customizable posts are available in the Live Wildfire Ready Partner Toolkit, and you can visit the Facebook pages for FACO and the Colorado State Forest Service, or the Instagram page for the CSFS, to share our posts.
Other ways to participate in the campaign include the following:
- Saturday, May 3rd, is Wildfire Community Preparedness Day, encouraging focus on the first five feet around the home this year! Put your Wildfire Preparedness Day Projects on the NFPA Map and promote them through your local media, including news, radio, and television.
- Order Live Wildfire Ready materials to pass out at community events
- Encourage your local elected officials to adopt a Wildfire Awareness Month Proclamation
- Coordinate your activities during Wildfire Awareness Month with local partners
- Add your organization to the list of local resources on the Live Wildfire Ready website.

The campaign will be promoted on the following outlets during Wildfire Awareness Month:
- Colorado Public Radio stations statewide, KUNC (91.5 FM) and KJAC The Colorado Sound (105.5 FM)
- Movie theaters in Boulder, Douglas, Eagle, El Paso, Jefferson, La Plata, Larimer, Logan, and Mesa counties
- YouTube streaming platforms across Colorado
- Colorado Rockies home games in April and May
The Live Wildfire Ready campaign has garnered more than 18 million impressions through a variety of tools in 2023 and 2024. Get more details on campaign results in the Colorado Senate Bill 22-007: Final Report. Colorado House Bill 24-1024 extended the campaign through 2027.
